Paramedic Services medication pouch discovered missing

Region warns the drugs can be 'extremely dangerous' when used without medical supervision

While on a routine call in the Alpine neighbourhood of Kitchener, a Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services medication pouch was discovered missing at the end of a shift earlier today, according to a news release from the region.

Contained in the pouch were narcotics that included 8 milligrams of hydromorphone and 20 milligrams of morphine, both of which belong to the opioid class of narcotics.

The region said it is sharing this information with the community "out of an abundance of caution".

"When used without medical supervision, these drugs are extremely dangerous," the release states.

Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services is working closely with Waterloo Region Police Services to recover the missing narcotics, the region said.
